MEET MIKE

Guess what? You can go home again.

My parents moved our family to Santa Barbara county way back in 1967, and so I think of myself as native. As a kid, I worked for my interior designer Mom, making deliveries, installing window coverings, and sneaking my buddies onto Hollister Ranch.

After UCSB and Westmont College, I worked for Richard Byars in Montecito, where I really fell in love with design. But the big city called, and I ended up spending the bulk of my career in San Francisco and New York. In those cities, my work broadened to include furniture design, brand development, product development/licensing, and tech integration, in the design, hospitality, and retail industries.

Retail work with Costco.com and Pottery Barn/Williams-Sonoma focused on bringing good design to broad audiences. As president of BDDW in New York, the focus was on ace craftsmanship and materials, regardless of price.

Today, over one million pieces of furniture — originating from my crews’ drafting boards and workshops — live in homes and hotels across the globe, and our work and influence is seen and felt in luxury brands around the world.

In 2021, I moved my own small family back to SB county, and we are loving it. As a designer, my focus is now on high-end residential and small boutique hotels.
